DPI explained
DPI is dots per inch in the laser software. image-r prepares the picture. It does not set the machine. A 1400-pixel-wide PNG engraved at 300 DPI is about 4.7 inches wide. The same file at 600 DPI is about 2.3 inches wide.
More pixels do not invent detail the photo never had. They give the dither more room. A portrait that will be 8 inches wide at 300 DPI wants about 2400 pixels on that edge. Use Advanced and set the long edge before you download.
Speed, power, and interval still belong to LightBurn, LaserGRBL, xTool, or Glowforge. If the burn is too light or too deep, change the machine settings, not only the picture.
